Course Topics
- Have a good understanding of how the diagnosis is achieved
- Understand the treatment options available to the patient
- Be able to decide the planning of the treatment with the patient
- Understand the prognosis of the treatment
Course Objectives
On completion of this module clinician should have good understanding of the following
- There is only one diagnosis
- Accurate diagnosis of a patient’s problem is essential for effective treatment planning
- An accurate diagnosis is only possible following a meticulous dental & medical history that may also affect the outcome of proposed treatment
- Risk assessment: patient level & Individual Tooth Prognosis
- Radiographic Assessment & Special Tests
- Risk factors for dental disease affecting clinical outcomes
- Systematic sequence of examination to reduce diagnosis error
- Whenever possible, treatment plans should be non-invasive and reversible-contingency planning
- A treatment plan is incomplete unless the patient has informed consent regarding all options of treatment and costing
- When in doubt about your diagnosis and treatment plan, when to consider second opinion from a more experienced colleague
